Just wanted to start a thread about this, since they have a 10 day free trial going on, apparently just released new content and better graphics (but still not amazing graphics or anythign), and the game is half decent and FPS styled.

Its set in post apocolyptic Grand Canyon, where people are mutated by a virus, and pretty much everything is destroyed and built as rubble shacks and stuff.  You start with improvised weapons like frying pans, garden spades, and carpet knives.  You craft just about everything in the game, but can buy a good bit of things to craft with.  Crafting goes through many levels, where you literally make each component to make a larger item (like an ATV would require mined metal and rubber for tires, and then combine the tires with other parts to eventually make the completed ATV to ride).

The combat is fps based, but isnt perfect.  Its still based on some dice rolls, varying damage amounts, and the NPC's can miss, as thats the only way to make AI seem more "human".  Meelee takes a bit of getting used to, but this cast may be making it more difficult.  I found that its harder to hit in meelee than MO, but theres guns and stuff, so you may not opt for the meelee approach.

Theres a type of magic, but its based off of mutations that give you powers like healing yourself, shocking enemies, and teleportation (afaik).

Its largely quest based to level up (40 max, but it takes a while), and pvp comes in the second area that I havnt gotten to yet.  I'll update it if I play long enough to experience PvP.

Overall its more engaging than most MMO's I play, as I've been spoiled on the FPS combat games as of late.  I'd say check it out if you're bored with MO and want something else to do for a bit.

So does that mean that the world is instanced like AoC or Warhammeronline? Or is it an Openworld like MO? ...so you actually know more about it (if you have reched the "second" area? atm).

Its a huge open world, supposedly the size of the grand canyon.

The reason I did not play it is because the AI was kinda broken when I played.

The AI doesnt seem broken to me, so its possible the new content fixed that.   There are starter PvP zones as well, so I'll look into getting myself into fights to see how it is.

I've heard the PvP is mostly about accomplishing a goal with your guild instead of personal victories, so theres no loot in pvp, but you get stat loss (regenerative I believe) that stacks so it takes you out of the fight, and theres no regen stations in PvP zones, so you usually respawn far away from your fight.

Im PM'ing an old friend from TCoS, Baka, that said he's involved with a large guild in Fallen Earth, so I'll keep talking to him about it.  If I get in with his guild, I may decide to sub, as it seems good enough for now to pay.

The game costs $40 for the first month, or $32 for military (email), and you can get a special ATV with it (transportation is important in this game, its huge).

Btw, if you're in the military, you can buy multiple accounts all for $32.  Anyone want to help me save $8? lol.

You guys still playing the trial? I played the beta back a few months ago and didn't care too much for the AI and how buggy first person view was messed up. How is it now?

I basically gave up when I heard that the end game pvp pretty much sucked and was nearly dead. Might be worth a month of pve and quests.... maybe.

I played in the beta, and I think they have improved it since then but these are the reasons I stopped:

1) Attribute points are hidden at the end of very long quest chains so the only way to level is via these quests. I swore after Age of Conan I would never ever do that again.

2) The Conflict Towns are the only places you can PvP. However, in order for your faction to take over a conflict town you have to grind the same extremely boring quest over and over and over again. It's the worst possible mechanic I can think of for what is supposed to be a PvP area.

3) The combat system include a LOT of cc and little counter cc, and is mostly buffs.

4) The combat system involved hotkeying in excess of 30 skills, another thing I find annoying. PvP should be about timing, positioning and using the right skill at the right time, not trying to find the right skill amongst 30 others.

5) Crafters have enough skill spoints for all crafting lines, meaning the economy is not sufficiently player driven.

6) Expansions will add extra levels for players, with more quests. So there is no end game, just a never ending series of quests to look forward to in order to stay competitive.

If you look at the devs making the game, they are mostly ex-WoW players who enjoy PnP and wanted something a bit more sandboxy. That's what drives the game design.

I alpha and Beta tested it also. Thought it was a pile of shit due to how poorly it ran compared to the graphics and visual effects it offered. Sure thats tweaked and adjusted now but non-the less it's time has passed for me as Secret World launches at the end of this year, Better Graphics, Better Company, Skill based (No levels) so very sandbox like.
