Well, I have been accepted to the Perpetuum beta. Thanks to Zootsuit! This game looks very cool so far, it reminds me of a Mechwarrior sandbox MMO. Hope it's fun Cheesy

check it out at: http://www.perpetuum-online.com

Here's a little update. So far I've been playing for about 30 minutes & I know that's not much time to make a decent  trial decision about it but so far it is pretty intriguing. Definitely worth checking out as a guild or a large group. Oh yea, runs VERY smooth too.

Reading some of the stuff of their website makes me think this game is very similar to EVE.  Seems like your robot thing gets a certain power output (like EVE), has a certain "hit box" like the way EVE does it, stuff like that.  It seems like your robot has a "hit box" for a reason, like if you use a robot that's only 4m surface radius and get hit by an 8m radius explosion, half of that explosion gets wasted and depending on the way the game does it you may take less damage.

Suppose I'll sign up then, looks cool.
And to Andrules, doesn't every character, ever, need a hitbox?
Unless it trains your skills over time even if your off line and all that I don't think its like eve.

I think that he means that smaller mechs will have an advantage as they wont take as much damage since less shit hits them in explosions.  They may not have as much armor, but that doesnt mean that the same bombs will do as devastating damage to them as big guys.

Note:  Beta access will not be given unless you are an applicant/member.  I do not want random people trying to use him to get into this beta, so I'm requesting he abide by this.

Thanks for doing this, Zootsuit.

Yea that's what I meant Neoxx.

And from reading it says somewhere that time levels your skills.

"Time-based character development
No need for 'grinding'. You can be qualified despite you're not playing, since players get XP even if they are not logged in."

So I guess you get to level like in EVE.

Its like eve, but a little different.

You get 1 Extension (skill) point every minute no matter if you're online or offline.

You spend those points on extensions which improve your skills and unlock new skills like being able to drive a better robot or getting extra damage from weapons and better refining percentages.

You dont have to worry about constantly having books reading, as you use the points and the skill is instantly upgraded.  As far as I know theres no EP cap on what you have but not used yet.

Nice on the face of it, but it basically means that you'll have to wait to level.

It makes the improvements worth it.

Its slow to start, but I'd imagine once you get into PvP things will level out much more and you wont just be waiting for that next level all the time.

Theres also prototypes of the same level items that get a decent improvement, but are fucking expensive to produce so they cost a lot.  It gives a reason to grind NPC's to research their tech to be able to make the proto's.

I've been enjoying myself so far, and am getting more into the economics/industry of it the last couple days.

You guys will have to tell me how it is when you get more into it.  I could never seem to get on board with the whole mech-suit thing.  If it is a nice MMO though I might try and check it out some time.

It's a pretty fun game. It's almost identical to EvE.

I always thought Eve was more of a... movie than a video game.  It always seemed about clicking a button and then watching things happen.  Is it like that?

No. When I write "almost identical" I am alluding to the fact that Perpetuum includes what EvE was lacking (and why I never truly connected with it): interaction with your avatar. In Perpetuum, you use WASD keys to move your machine. It's much more immersive than EvE. That being said, the game is not a very exciting combat game; it's still the fire and autofire mechanics of EvE.

Its still auto fire, but you're not always just set it and forget it because of the active movement.

It does really have what I thought EvE was missing for me.

Also, we're already producing our own ammo as a corporation.  Woot!

Interesting post on the forums about the potential direction of Perpetuum.  Thought you all might want to know!

OP: http://forums.perpetuum-online.com/topic/2370/rts-elements/

Quote from: Prophet

I'm not entirely sure on what the plan is here but the FOW(fog of war)  thread got me thinking.

If you're going to have terraforming and that, are we also going to be able to build bases, RTS-style?

I.e., you have at the very least a powerplant-type building which feeds a few defensive turrets and other useful buildings, for example longrange radar and FOW tower.

Maybe you could then add specific industrial buildings too, such as ore reprocessor, which has higher base % for refine? (you would just drop ore into these like into a container, ie from the outside, then use a terminal to start the refine process, and go collect your ore) ...could be done for factory buildings etc too.

Obviously there would need to be stringent limits to stop you spamming a heap of towers and such, etc, but that would all just be in the details.

Basically, the tl;dr question is, how far is AC planning to go in terms of land ownership/customisation/terraforming/onwards?

Quote from: Dev Zoom
That is exactly what we are planning smile

They just patched to bring in the basic territory control system, where you can capture the permanent outposts on the pvp islands.

If any of you actually decide to log in, our corp is dead now.  Agent Orange and I have moved to another corp, as we werent strong enough with those active.

Not that I expect any of you to play, but I just wanted to let everyone know that the game has just gotten a lot more PvP Tongue
